S/Y Koru stands as one of the most extraordinary vessels ever conceived — a 127-metre, three-masted sailing superyacht built by the legendary Dutch shipyard Oceanco and delivered in April 2023. Commissioned by one of the world's most visionary entrepreneurs, Koru represents a bold departure from the motoryacht world: a return to the timeless romance of sail, executed at an unprecedented scale.
Designed by the acclaimed naval architects at Dykstra Naval Architects, with interiors by the celebrated London firm Mlinaric, Henry & Zervudachi, every detail of Koru speaks to a singular philosophy — that true luxury is inseparable from beauty, craftsmanship, and the elemental power of the sea.
With a reported construction value exceeding $500 million, Koru is not merely a yacht. She is a legacy.

Origins & Legacy
Koru's story begins in 2018, when she was first commissioned under the code name Project Y721 at Oceanco's facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands. From the outset, her ambition was singular: to become the world's most extraordinary sailing yacht — a three-masted schooner of a scale never before attempted by the Dutch yard.
The name Koru is rooted in Māori tradition: in the indigenous art of New Zealand, the koru — a spiralling fern frond — is one of the most sacred symbols, representing new life, growth, strength, and peace. It is a shape that speaks to perpetual renewal, a return to one's point of origin. It is a name that carries weight.
As construction neared completion in 2022, Koru's sheer scale created a challenge that captured international headlines. Her three towering masts — estimated at between 65 and 85 metres in height — could not pass beneath Rotterdam's beloved historic Koningshaven Bridge. Initial reports suggested Oceanco had approached the city about temporarily dismantling part of the 97-year-old structure, sparking fierce public debate and widespread media attention across Europe. Ultimately, the logistical challenge was resolved through expert navigation: the masts were transported separately via an alternate route through the Nieuwe Maas, preserving the bridge's integrity entirely.
Koru was officially delivered to her owner in Gibraltar in April 2023, and has since sailed the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and beyond — a constant reminder of what becomes possible when vision meets craftsmanship.
Onboard Experience
Three-Masted Rig
Koru's iconic trio of masts rise to approximately 75 metres, carrying over 20,000 square feet of sail. She has been regularly photographed underway fully under sail — a breathtaking sight matched by few vessels on earth.
Aft Deck Pool & Jacuzzis
A full swimming pool graces the aft deck, complemented by multiple Jacuzzi installations, offering unrivalled relaxation with sweeping ocean panoramas as your backdrop.
Support Vessel — Abeona
Accompanying Koru is the 75-metre support vessel Abeona, built by Damen Yachting. She carries a full helipad and hangar, tenders, water toys, and accommodations for up to 45 crew and staff.
Interior by MHZ
The interiors are the work of Mlinaric, Henry & Zervudachi — one of London's most storied design houses. Warm natural wood tones, neutral palette, and bespoke detailing create a sense of timeless, refined living.
Green Innovation
Koru pioneers a prototype kinetic energy recovery system that converts wave-induced motion into electrical energy — an elegant testament to the owner's commitment to sustainability at sea.
Crow's Nest & Panoramas
A crow's nest atop the central mast offers lofty panoramic vistas for adventurous guests, while full-length windows throughout the superstructure flood every interior space with natural light.
The Shadow Vessel
Named for the Roman goddess of outward journeys and safe passage, Abeona is the purpose-built shadow vessel commissioned expressly to accompany Koru. Constructed by Damen Yachting in the Netherlands and delivered in early 2023, she is the largest support vessel in Damen's entire history — a 75-metre, 1,900-tonne ocean-going platform designed to carry everything a world-circumnavigating superyacht could require.
Abeona's open aft deck is engineered for storing tenders, water toys, and all equipment not carried aboard the mothership. A full helipad and hangar accommodate a D14-class helicopter, while large hydraulic cranes enable swift launch and recovery of craft at sea. She also carries capacity for emergency relief support equipment, medical personnel, and provisions — making her a self-sufficient expedition vessel in her own right.
With a range of 5,000 nautical miles and a top speed of 18 knots, Abeona ensures that wherever Koru sails, full logistical and operational support is never more than a horizon away. She is offered for negotiation alongside Koru as a separate line item.
